Community Involvement

The 7Gen Swimming logo was designed by a local First Nations artist, Candace Pamajewon from Shawanaga First Nation.

The 7Gen Swimming logo was proudly designed by a local Indigenous artist from Shawanaga First Nation, Candace Nongonse Pamajewon

In honour of Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Artwork was provided by Candace Pamajewon – An Ojibway artist from Shawanaga.  Nongose is a member of the Sturgeon Clan . Candace created 7 Gens Bezaajig (“7 Gens Swimming”), a logo inspired by the Georgian Bay area, the First Nation communities connected to the region, and most importantly, the Parry Sound Aquatics swim team (read more).

As project lead for the Orange Caps for Truth and Reconciliation Day initiative, Dana Labrie, Founder, 7 Gen Swimming, guided the development of a meaningful and culturally respectful logo for this year’s campaign. “I coordinated the full creative process, from defining the visual direction to ensuring the artwork reflected the spirit of Every Child Matters and the broader goals of Truth and Reconciliation. A key part of my role was sourcing a talented local Indigenous artist from within the community, ensuring the design was rooted in authentic representation and local voices.” By bringing community‑based creativity into the project and managing the collaboration from concept to final artwork, Dana helped create a logo that honours Indigenous peoples’, supports awareness, and strengthens the initiative’s connection to the people it aims to uplift.
